Commission on State Economic Enterprises
Commission on State Economic Enterprises is the second largest commission of the Turkish Parliament. This Commission oversees the annual audit of the State Economic Enterprises (SEEs) by holding meetings and inspecting SEEs’ activities during a year. Approving or disapproving the annual activities is undertaken by this commission. Commission forwards the disapproved annual activities to the relevant judicial authorities for investigation. This commission has totally 36 deputy members from representing all political parties in Turkish Parliament.
Undersecretary of the Prime Ministry
The peak of bureaucracy; in bureaucracy, the Undersecretary is equivalent to the Prime Minister in the Government. The most important duties of the Undersecretary is to ensure coordination among Ministers and within bureaucracy in order for its management. The Undersecretary of the Prime Ministry takes action on behalf of the Prime Minister.
The Turkish Electricity Authority (TEK)
The Turkish Electricity Authority (TEK), which was the largest State Economic Enterprise (SEE) in Turkey, was established in 1970. The investment and management of the electricity generation, transmission and distribution facilities and the planning of the sector was assigned to TEK with a monopoly status. TEK was divided into forty separate companies in order to be privatised. The privatisation of the distribution companies will be completed at the end of 2010 and in 2011 the privatisation of generation companies will be completed.
Turkish State Railways (TCDD )
Turkish State Railways (TCDD), is an official organisation that organizes, manages and controls railway transport in the Republic of Turkey. TCDD is responsible of construction and operation of the railway network and producing locomotives, freight wagons and passenger wagons.
Doğan Holding
Doğan Holding is the Turkey’s greatest media organisation during the time of employment. There are many television broadcasts, newspapers and periodical publications affiliated with this organisation. Doğan Holding also has numerous investments and operations in various fields such as construction, liquid fuel distribution, holiday villages, marina management, production of automotive spare parts and steel cables.
Bilkent Holding
Bilkent Holding has the first private (foundation) university in Turkey. Bilkent supported the university with the income of its incorporated industrial companies and as a result, one of the most important university of Turkey was founded. The Holding is active in many fields including construction, tourism, paper and printing, informatics and the defence industry.
Black Sea Economic Cooperation Council (BSEC)
BSEC was established as a model of multilateral political and economic initiative aimed at fostering interaction and harmony among the Member States, as well as to ensure peace, stability and prosperity encouraging friendly and good-neighborly relations in the Black Sea region. The council is an international political platform that supports partnership projects in the fields of transportation, energy, telecommunication, etc within the member countries. Black Sea Trade and Development Bank, which is related to BSEC was established by member countries of BSEC, supports economic development and regional cooperation by providing trade and project financing, guarantees, and equity for development projects in its member countries.
Export Promotion Centre (IGEME)
The Export Promotion Centre was established by the Prime Minister Turgut Özal of the time, in order to provide service in terms of developing exportation within a development plan framework on mainly exportation. Among the Centre’s main responsibilities are to reduce the bureaucracy that slows down exportation, increase exportation, investigate export markets, develop export products and propose export promotion policies.
